TDS - Total Dissolved Solids are used to determine the amount of solids, usually in the form of chlorides and sulfates presently in the water supply.  When levels exceed the EPA limit of 500 ppm the water may have a somewhat "heavy", "thick" or salty taste.  Reverse Osmosis (R.O.) is the only technology available for this condition at point of use.
